What is Globalization? ---HAN JIAYI

I think globalization is the process of the world becoming more and more "connected". In the past, people from different countries may not know what each other is doing for the rest of their lives, but now, through trade, technology, and cultural exchanges, we can easily understand and reach things around the world.

For example, in our daily lives, many goods are the result of globalization. Cell phones may be designed in the United States, but parts are made in China and finally assembled in Vietnam; fruits sold in supermarkets may come from South America; and even clothes we wear may be made in Southeast Asia. That is one of the hallmarks of globalization — that different countries work together to move resources and technology.

In addition, globalization has exposed us to more cultures. The fact that we can watch Hollywood movies at home, listen to Korean pop music, and try Italian pizza makes me think that the world is really small. Although we have different languages and cultures, these differences make us more interesting in the process of globalization.

However, globalization is not entirely without problems. While some countries have gained development opportunities as a result of globalization, some places may be affected, such as local firms that may not be able to compete with large foreign firms. Also, because production is becoming more concentrated, environmental problems are becoming more serious. Globalization is both an opportunity and a challenge.

Overall, globalization makes me feel like a big community, where people depend on each other and help each other. While there are some issues that need to be addressed, I feel that this "connected" approach will make our lives better as long as we learn to balance.
