My Experiences in taking English classes, learning wiki technology, and adapting to life in Korea

 * Experiences in an English-Language Class at a Korean University

The English course system in Korean universities is diverse and practical. There are many courses, including academic English, business English, cultural exchange English and other branches. The academic English course I took focuses on the application of English in academic research. The course content includes reading English literature in professional fields, writing academic papers and presenting academic reports. The professor will guide us to analyze the structure and logic of classic academic papers and teach us how to accurately cite references, which is very helpful for improving my academic literacy and research ability.

* Adjusting to Life in Korea

When I first came to Korea, adapting to life was a gradual process. In terms of diet, Korean cuisine has distinct characteristics. From the initial discomfort with spicy food to gradually falling in love with spicy cabbage, army stew and other delicacies, I experienced a transformation of my taste buds. I noticed the existence of cultural differences. For example, at gatherings, Koreans are accustomed to using honorifics to express respect for others. It takes time for me to learn and adapt to different honorific expressions to avoid unnecessary misunderstandings. In terms of living environment, I rented an apartment off campus. Getting along with the landlord and neighbors gave me a deep understanding of Korean community culture.

* Learning Wiki Technology

During this learning process, I learned how to collaborate effectively with others on Wiki and how to deal with editorial conflicts and other issues. For example, when different members have different opinions and modifications on the same part of the content, we will communicate with each other on the discussion page and reach a consensus on the basis of reliable information and reasonable logic before making modifications. At the same time, I also realize the great potential of Wiki technology in knowledge dissemination and sharing. It breaks down geographical and disciplinary constraints, allowing people to gather global wisdom and build a rich knowledge base together.

* Suggestions for Improving International Student Experiences

Schools can build more platforms for international students to interact with local Korean students. In addition to club activities, large-scale events such as international cultural exchange weeks can be organized to encourage students to showcase the cultural characteristics of their respective countries and promote mutual understanding and tolerance among different cultures. Consideration can also be given to the establishment of an international student apartment community to provide diversified accommodation options, such as single rooms, double rooms, family suites, etc., to meet the needs of different students. At the same time, the apartment community is equipped with public study space, leisure and recreational facilities, etc. to create a favorable living and learning atmosphere.
