Extra credit project:Experiences in an English-Language Class at a Korean University-JIA YUAN

Reflections on My Experience in an English-Language Class

Taking an English-language class at my university was both a challenging and rewarding experience, especially because my English skills were only average. It was not always easy, but it helped me grow in many ways, both in language learning and in personal confidence.

Overcoming Language Challenges

At first, I found it hard to keep up with the class. The professor spoke entirely in English, and some classmates were much more fluent than I was. When reading long articles or writing essays, I often felt frustrated because it took me a long time to understand and complete my work. However, I reminded myself that every mistake was an opportunity to learn. With practice and support from my classmates, I started to feel more comfortable speaking and writing in English.

Learning Through Group Work

One of the best parts of the class was working on group projects. I was nervous at first because I worried my English wasn’t good enough, but my classmates were very understanding. They encouraged me to share my ideas, even if my sentences weren’t perfect. By discussing topics and solving problems together, I learned how to communicate better in English and gained confidence in expressing myself.

Small Improvements Felt Big

Even small progress felt like a big achievement for me. For example, after giving my first English presentation, I realized that I could actually explain my thoughts clearly to others, even if I made a few mistakes. Every time I completed an assignment or participated in a discussion, I felt proud of myself for trying and improving step by step.

Support and Friendship

What made the class even more special was the supportive atmosphere. Many of my classmates knew what it felt like to struggle with English, so they were patient and kind. We often helped each other, whether by checking grammar, explaining difficult words, or practicing together. This teamwork made the class less stressful and more enjoyable.

Conclusion

Looking back, the English-language class was a tough but meaningful journey for me. It taught me that improvement doesn’t happen overnight, but with effort and determination, I can achieve more than I expected. Most importantly, it showed me the value of learning with others and staying positive, even when things feel difficult. This experience has made me more confident, not just in English, but in facing other challenges in life as well.
