Extra credit project: Experiences in an English-Language Class at a Korean University ---- fan jingyu

As an international student, my university life in Korea was full of challenges and opportunities for growth. Whether it's absorbing knowledge in English classes, learning Wiki technology to enhance academic skills, or striving to adapt to the new Korean culture, every experience has benefited me greatly.

English classes in Korean universities are not just about language learning, but also a window to understand different cultures and ideas. The design of the course emphasizes interaction and practical application, usually involving debates, group discussions, and keynote speeches. This teaching mode has freed me from the previous passive state of receiving knowledge and made me more actively involved in the classroom.

However, at the beginning, I did face some difficulties. For example, my pronunciation and expression lack confidence, which makes me appear somewhat restrained in discussions. But teachers are usually very patient and even encourage us to express our opinions in Korean mixed with English, helping us gradually build confidence. In addition, the course often includes comparisons between Korean and international cultures, which has given me a deeper understanding of the complexity of cross-cultural communication.

Once, the theme of our course was "How to Explain Our Country's Culture in English", which not only enhanced my language skills, but also made me re-examine my cultural background. By collaborating with Korean classmates on a team project, I learned how to work more effectively with people from different cultural backgrounds.

Adapting to life in Korea is both a challenge and an unforgettable growth experience for me. As a foreign student, I need to deal with the impact of language barriers, dietary differences, and social customs.

When I first arrived in Korea, Korean was almost like a 'heavenly book'. Even the simplest daily conversations, such as shopping at convenience stores or ordering at restaurants, make me feel extremely stressed. Fortunately, the school provided free Korean language
