Extra credit project: Adjusting to Life in Korea----ZHANG XIAOTONG
As a student studying in Korea, I will describe my experience of taking English courses in Korean classrooms, learning wiki technology, and adapting to life in Korea.
1. Taking English courses
Taking and learning English courses is a kind of self-enhancement and improvement. During class, you will practice listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The content of this English course includes basic grammar, vocabulary, daily conversation, and professional or academic English. You can practice listening and professional terminology when the professor teaches, and understand and learn grammar to write articles when completing homework after class. You will also practice speaking when talking with classmates and professors. In such a course, I can improve my language skills in many ways.
2. Learning wiki technology
Wiki technology refers to the creation and maintenance of website content in an open, collectively edited way. Wikipedia and Wikivoyage are more iconic Wiki technology applications. Before starting to edit Wikipedia, I first learned the basic rules of Wikipedia and created a Wikipedia account, and began to try to edit existing entries. I gradually learned how to use the "visual editor" to modify text, add internal links, insert references, etc. When editing Wikivoyage information, I often start from the perspective of travelers and consider what practical information travelers need, such as how to get there, accommodation recommendations, and what attractions are worth seeing. This has given me a deeper understanding of all aspects of travel and made me feel a sense of accomplishment in helping others.
3. Adapting to life in Korea
Adapting to life in Korea requires dealing with cultural differences, language barriers, and various challenges in daily life. For a foreigner like me, it is very important to understand Korean society and culture. The first thing I need to learn is Korean, including mastering basic grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary, and daily conversation skills. Then I have to gradually integrate into Korean culture and adapt to Korea's basic etiquette and social norms, such as greetings, social etiquette, etc. I also have to work hard to adapt to these cultural changes in my daily life, but this also requires me to continue to spend time practicing slowly.
