Extra credit blog:Experience of taking English classes, learning Wiki technology and adapting to life in Korea----MUYE

1.As a Chinese student, the experience of studying English at a Korean university is generally interesting and challenging. The classroom atmosphere was more active than I thought. Teachers encourage students to speak more and the classroom is very interactive. Although sometimes I need more time to understand and express my point of view due to language differences, as I slowly adapt, I find myself improving in both language and thinking.

Of course, there are challenges as well. Since English is not my native language, there may be vocabulary or grammatical barriers in some academic discussions, but fortunately, teachers are very patient and always encourage us to speak positively and give feedback.

Overall, despite some challenges, this process has given me a lot of exercise and improvement in language skills and cross-cultural communication.

2.As a Chinese student studying in South Korea, the process of adapting to life here has been both interesting and challenging. At first, there were some difficulties, but over time, I found ways to overcome these challenges.

The language was a major hurdle. Although I had learned some Korean, in daily life, especially in places like supermarkets, restaurants, or when talking to Korean friends, there were still communication barriers. Sometimes, even if I understood simple sentences, I struggled with more complex conversations. However, as time went on, I improved my speaking and listening skills by attending language classes and practicing with Korean friends. Gradually, communication in daily life became smoother.

Adapting to the food was another challenge. Korean cuisine is very distinct, with a preference for spicy food and some ingredients that are different from what I was used to in China. When I first arrived, I wasnt used to the spiciness or some of the unique ingredients, like kimchi. But over time, I began to enjoy Korean food, especially dishes like bibimbap (stone pot rice) and Korean BBQ, and I gradually adapted to these flavors.

3.When working on university assignments, I often use Wikipedia as a tool to quickly gather information. Overall, its convenient and user-friendly, but there are some limitations to keep in mind.

Wikipedia covers almost every subject, from history and economics to the latest technological trends. Whatever Im researching, theres usually a relevant article available. For example, when I first started studying the topic of "globalization," I quickly learned about its definition, historical development, and impact on culture and the economy. This saved me a lot of time in the early stages of research.

One of the best features of Wikipedia is its ability to switch between languages. If I have trouble understanding something in English, I can simply switch to the Chinese version. Sometimes, comparing the differences between language versions reveals interesting details, which is particularly useful when working on cross-cultural topics.

While Wikipedia itself isnt the most reliable academic source, its articles often include references and external links to credible materials. For instance, when researching "climate change," I found a key United Nations report through a link on Wikipedia. This was much more efficient than randomly searching online.

4.To improve the experience of international students, the following aspects can be addressed:

Language Support: Provide more language training and multilingual services to help students improve their language skills.

Cultural Adaptation: Organize cross-cultural exchange activities and cultural adaptation counseling to help students understand and integrate into the local culture.

Psychological Support: Offer mental health services and establish support networks to help students cope with stress and loneliness.

Academic Support: Provide academic tutoring and writing guidance to help students adapt to academic requirements and cultural differences.

Living Support: Offer accommodation services and life guides to assist international students with daily practical matters.

Social Integration: Organize social events and establish international student organizations to help students make new friends and integrate into social circles.

Career Development: Provide career counseling and internship opportunities to help students prepare for their future careers.
