Experience of Taking English Classes in Korean Universities
Taking English classes at a Korean university is a unique experience. Whether it is taught in English or Korean; classes are usually discussion and teamwork oriented, with professors focusing heavily on interaction and practical skills. I have taken a variety of English classes, including writing and speech classes, as well as required academic English classes. I think these classes have improved my academic English skills as well as practiced practical application skills. In addition, students come from different countries and cultural backgrounds, and there are many opportunities to engage in cross-cultural exchanges in the classroom. For example, the classes I took each semester usually had Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Mongolian students. My experience in these classes is that you just need to talk to them more and more, and they will gradually become your friends. Secondly, to be honest, there are definitely challenges with the language and cultural differences. After all, the school doesn't require you to submit English proficiency scores when you enroll. After all, the school doesn't require you to submit your English proficiency score when you enter the school, which will definitely lead to more or less language problems in the class. So you may need to study in advance, and if you want to fully understand the professor's lectures, you will need to review after class. But this was fine for me personally. Another experience is not to be shy, we are all students and it is normal to have deficiencies. So dare to say more and try more. That way you can improve. For example, in a group discussion, you should not be reluctant to participate in the discussion just because you are afraid that others think your language level is not high or you have an accent. In that case, your English will not improve.
Adapting to life in Korea
Adapting to life in Korea will take some time, but there are many ways to do it quickly. First of all, learning some basic Korean will help you in your daily communication, especially when shopping, ordering food in restaurants or taking public transportation. Next, understanding Korean culture and etiquette, such as showing respect to elders and being quiet in public, can make interactions between people smoother. The next step is to gain a deeper understanding of Korean culture while expanding your social circle by participating in school-organized activities, joining student clubs, or making local friends. Adapting to life in Korea should be relatively easy for us Chinese, after all, the two countries are very close to each other and many habits and cultures are similar.
Learn Wiki-Tech
Learning wiki technology can help to better access and manage information. First, familiarizing yourself with how to edit and create wiki pages is a basic skill. This can be learned step-by-step through online tutorials or by participating in wiki projects. At the same time, understanding how wikis are organized and categorized helps to search for information and contribute content more efficiently. Collaboration skills are equally important in the learning process, as wiki platforms are often maintained in teams. For international students, this is also an opportunity to improve their academic writing skills and expand their knowledge.
Suggestions to improve the international student experience
1. provide more language learning resources, such as free Korean classes and English writing support.
2. Schools can organize more activities that promote interaction between international and local students, such as cultural festivals and language exchange programs.
3. Set up a counseling team specifically for international students to help them solve problems in adapting to a new environment, such as visas, housing, and course selection.
4. Optimize the English-Chinese information on the school's website, which is currently multilingual and needs to be strengthened. Add detailed guidebooks and FAQs.
5. Establish a community of international students through social media or specialized student platforms to facilitate communication and sharing of experiences.
These suggestions can help international students integrate into campus life faster and enhance the overall learning experience.
