extra credit :Adjusting to Life in Korea WANGRUITONG

Arriving in South Korea, everything felt both fresh and unfamiliar. From the bustling streets of Seoul to the quiet alleys of small towns, every corner exuded a unique charm. However, as a newcomer, I also faced many challenges and needed to gradually adapt to this entirely new living environment. Although I had previously learned some basic Korean, I quickly realized upon arrival that my level was far from sufficient. To adjust as quickly as possible, I enrolled in a Korean language class, dedicating my days to lessons and practicing speaking and listening skills. I also downloaded Korean learning apps to study during spare moments. Gradually, I began to communicate in simple Korean for daily conversations, which made me feel both excited and proud.

Korean cuisine is also exceptionally unique. Initially, I found it difficult to adapt to dishes like kimchi and Korean barbecue, but over time, I grew to love these delicious foods. I even learned how to make simple kimchi and bibimbap, which gave me a great sense of accomplishment. Additionally, Korea's coffee culture is highly developed, with cafés on almost every corner. This led me to develop a love for Korean coffee as well.

South Korea's transportation system is highly developed, offering subways, buses, taxis, and more. At first, I was unfamiliar with the routes and ticketing system, but after some exploration and practice, I became adept at using these means of transportation. I also found that Korea’s public transport is very convenient and relatively affordable, saving me both time and money.

Social activities are also an essential part of life in Korea. Through language classes, volunteer activities, and other events, I made some Korean friends who were warm and friendly. They often invited me to various gatherings and activities. These social experiences not only improved my Korean skills but also deepened my understanding of Korean culture and customs.

Lastly, I want to emphasize the importance of adjusting one’s mindset. Living in a foreign country inevitably involves challenges and setbacks. However, by maintaining a positive attitude and facing these difficulties courageously, it is possible to gradually adapt and integrate into this new environment. I also found that building good relationships with locals is crucial, as it helps us better understand the culture and customs and adapt to the new lifestyle more quickly.

In conclusion, adapting to life in Korea requires time and effort. However, with a positive mindset and a willingness to face challenges, you can find your place in this beautiful country and enjoy the pleasures of living abroad.
