Blog3: What is the relation between politics and globalization?--ZHANG MINGSHUO

Politics plays a key role in the process of globalization, and globalization has also had a profound impact on politics. Through political cooperation and agreements such as free trade agreements and investment protection agreements, countries have provided legal and institutional support for globalization and promoted transnational economic activities. In international organizations, such as the United Nations and the World Trade Organization (WTO) have played an important role in promoting globalization by strengthening cooperation and coordination among countries through the development of global rules and standards.

Although globalization is a transnational process, it does not occur spontaneously, but is driven by national political forces. Political forces such as Governments, international organizations and transnational corporations have jointly shaped the trajectory of globalization. First, governments play a vital role in the process of globalization. By concluding international trade agreements, formulating foreign policies and promoting cross-border cooperation, governments can promote countries to benefit from globalization or reduce its negative effects. The EU, for example, promotes economic cooperation and political coordination among its member States by strengthening regional integration. Elsewhere, such as the Asian Free Trade Area and the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), have played a similar role by promoting globalization and changing the political structure of countries.

Second, multinational corporations also play a pivotal role in globalization. They facilitate the formation of global markets through globalized production chains, capital flows and technology diffusion, and can change a country's political and economic direction by influencing government policies. For example, investment by TNCs in some developing countries may alter the local political environment and social structure, and even lead to a degree of political dependence.

In addition, international organizations such as the United Nations, the World Trade Organization and the International Monetary Fund have also played an important role in globalization. Not only are they at the heart of global governance, but they also have a direct impact on the global political order by setting international rules and mediating international disputes, especially on global issues such as the economy and environment.
