“What is the relation between politics and globalization?”

I believe that there is indeed a close interaction between the two. First, globalization has expanded the interdependence of nations, a dependence that has compelled Governments to adjust their policies in response to an ever-increasing number of global challenges. For example, issues such as climate change, transnational trade issues, and global public health crises (e.g., Covid-19) are often beyond the capacity of a single country and require extensive cooperation among nations to find solutions. Another important effect of globalization is that it has brought about a greater flow of information, which has made it easier for ordinary people to learn about international affairs. By being exposed to more international information, citizens have come to expect greater transparency and accountability in their own politics, which has contributed to a degree of political progress.
At the same time, governments and a number of international institutions, such as the United Nations and the World Trade Organization (WTO), have played a crucial role in setting rules and agreements. Through international trade agreements, many countries have been able to lower tariff and non-tariff barriers, which has paved the way for further globalization. A good example of this is the trade duty-free agreement between the United Kingdom and Australia, like the one I mentioned in my answer to the question in today's class. This kind of agreement not only promotes the economic exchange between the two countries, but also sets an example of cooperation for other countries. So I think the relationship between politics and globalization is a two-way interaction. Politics provides a framework of rules for globalization, such as regulating the conduct of transnational economic activities through various international agreements; and the deepening of globalization in turn affects the political behavior of countries and even weakens national sovereignty to a certain extent. In particular, international institutions such as the WTO are the key link between the two. It not only provided institutional safeguards for globalization, but also enabled countries to find a balance of cooperation in the wave of globalization.
