Blog 3 : What is the relation between politics and globalization? - GUANYUE

The relationship between globalization and politics feels like an intricate web, connecting nations more closely than ever while introducing new challenges. With globalization, the boundaries of politics are being redrawn. Issues like democracy, which were once confined to individual nations, have now extended onto the global stage. Human rights, environmental concerns, and gender equality are no longer just national affairs—they’ve become universal topics that the entire world is paying attention to. Every time a nation makes a policy decision, it has to consider global expectations and rules.

At the same time, globalization has made sovereignty less absolute. The rise of multinational corporations, international organizations, and even global civil society is reshaping traditional power structures. In many cases, non-state actors hold more influence than some nations. Think of those powerful multinational companies or NGOs that steer global conversations—they make politics more intricate than ever before.

Globalization also pushes nations to cooperate more closely. Issues like climate change or the COVID-19 pandemic demand collective solutions. Yet, this cooperation often reveals the inequalities within the global system—some nations dominate the discussions while others are left to follow.

Ultimately, globalization has made politics more open, diverse, and at the same time, more complicated. It’s both an opportunity and a challenge, bringing the world closer together while also highlighting deeper conflicts. This dynamic relationship is reshaping the way we all live and interact with the world.
