What is globalization? ZHANG MINGSHUO

Globalization is a complex and ongoing process that connects countries more closely in terms of economics, culture, and society. Over the past few decades, this interconnectedness has sped up trade, technology sharing, and cultural exchange, making the world feel more unified. Today, no matter where we are, we can easily access products and services from all over the globe and communicate instantly with others.

However, globalization isn't new. As Robertson and White note, its roots go back centuries, through events like colonialism, international trade, and the rise of capitalism during the Age of Exploration. It has been a slow build, shaped by historical forces long before the term "globalization" became popular in the 20th century.

Economically, globalization has made goods more affordable and allowed multinational companies to thrive by reducing production costs. Culturally, it has spread ideas and practices, creating a blend of global standards while also highlighting unique identities. Socially, it has reshaped relationships, with cross-border connections and easier communication through the internet and social media.

In short, globalization touches nearly every part of our lives, shaping how we live, work, and connect with others. While it has its challenges, its impact on our world is undeniable.
