Reading 2: What is the relation between culture and globalization? - Kang Taeho

Culture and globalization have a very close relationship. It shows governance as a category of various fields in which globalization is taking place. Before globalization, it was difficult to convey the cultures of different countries, but after cultural globalization, many countries have encountered the cultures of different countries, recreated them as their own, or enjoyed the cultures together. One of the characteristics of the relationship between culture and globalization was that it was difficult to measure quantitatively. However, in 2004, Randolph Randolph Kluver and Wayne Fu tried to measure it.

An example of cultural globalization is the remake of a Korean movie into a different national version. Another example of a culture is that K-pop singers work on music with American singers. Another example is that Japanese animation is exported around the world, and Korean children's programs are popular around the world.

With the development of technology, cultural globalization has become more active, thereby making culture more self-sustaining, leading to a unified world culture in which various ethnic cultures are fused. While cultural globalization has the positive aspects mentioned above, it also has the negative aspects that it is excessively dominated by Western or American culture and undermines existing cultural identity.

I discussed this issue in class, and at the time, I said that accepting an American culture that was politically, economically, and culturally excellent like the United States would mean more to development than to undermine it.

  1. I agree with the idea that cultural globalization fosters exchange and creativity, such as K-pop collaborations or movie remakes. While the dominance of Western culture can be concerning, it also offers opportunities for growth and hybridization. Rather than purely undermining local identities, globalization can serve as a platform for cultural evolution, where global influences are reshaped through local lenses.
