Blog2: What is the relation between culture and globalization? _ Jeong Aram

Culture and globalization are closely interconnected, forming a complex relationship where they influence each other in dynamic ways. Globalization refers to the process of increasing connections and exchanges between nations, which greatly impacts diverse cultures around the world and transforms them. This relationship can be understood through several key aspects.

First, cultural exchange and diversity. Globalization encourages the exchange of various cultural ideas, arts, foods, languages, and traditions, resulting in a greater diversity of culture in each nation. Through this exchange, different cultures adopt and merge aspects of each other, creating new cultural experiences and mutual understanding.

Second, cultural homogenization. While globalization promotes cultural diversity, it can also lead to cultural homogenization, where globally dominant cultures overshadow others, leading to a gradual similarity among cultures. Western media and consumer culture, for example, can weaken unique cultural identities, making different parts of the world share increasingly similar cultural traits.

Finally, economic and political influence on culture. Through globalization, multinational corporations and specific political ideologies spread across the globe, shaping new lifestyles and values tied to consumer culture. In this process, some countries may find it challenging to maintain their traditional values and identities.

In conclusion, the relationship between culture and globalization is one of both connection and tension. Globalization offers opportunities for cultural enrichment and fusion but also presents challenges to preserving unique cultural identities.
