Blog 2: What is the relation between culture and globalization?-ZHONG QI

Culture and globalization are interconnected and have a complex relationship.

The salutary influence of globalization on culture encompasses the facilitation of cultural interchange and dissemination, exemplified by the worldwide prevalence of Hollywood cinematography and Korean television dramas; the demonstration and preservation of cultural diversity, as evidenced by the heightened focus on subcultures and the international acknowledgment of the safeguarding of cultural heterogeneity; and the stimulation of cultural innovation, such as the amalgamation of electronic music with disparate genres and the incorporation of varied design philosophies into architectural aesthetics.

The negative impact is the potential for cultural homogenization, such as the expansion of fast food culture and the impact of Western values on local culture; and the incitement of cultural conflicts, such as religious artworks being likely to cause conflicts.

The push of culture on globalization is that the cultural industry boosts economic globalization, such as the Japanese anime industry; and provides a cultural foundation for global governance, promoting mutual understanding and trust and facilitating multilateral cooperation.

The limitation of culture on globalization is that cultural differences may hinder economic cooperation, such as differing time concepts and attitudes towards foreign enterprises; and cultural conflicts may cause global instability, such as religious and ethnic conflicts in the Middle East.

In summary, culture and globalization are closely interconnected, and challenges must be addressed to achieve cultural diversity and global harmony.
