What is Globalization-Song Hyeonmin

Globalization is a phenomenon in which human civilization converges into a single system as interdependence between countries increases, and it refers to a phenomenon in which national boundaries are broken down and global society is integrated regardless of political, economic, technological, social and cultural sectors. Globalization is a process of economic interaction and integration mainly related to social and cultural aspects. Globalization aims for a direction that increases connectivity and global consciousness between the world.

Roland Robertson described globalization as the compression of the world and the reinforcement of global consciousness. This can be briefly explained by the term global village proposed by Marshall McLuhan. Global village means that people around the world live in a village called Earth, and it is a word that clearly shows that the boundaries have been broken as there are no restrictions on the movement of people, information, and objects between countries. With the removal of cross-border barriers, the importance of the country has decreased and the global market has increased. As time passes in the modern era, the pace of globalization is gradually accelerating in the direction of rapid development.

As the pace of globalization accelerates, its advantages and disadvantages have begun to become clear. With the increasing diversity in many countries, there are more opportunities to learn and celebrate different cultures. Rich countries can now help poor countries in times of crisis. These interactions have awakened the sense that humans can depend on each other. Martin Albrow and Elizabeth King describe globalization as "the entire process by which people of the world are integrated into one world society." However, this process may make the difference between the powerful and the developing world more severe. As a result, the world moves in accordance with the order of the powerful and becomes uniform. It can be said that the actions of imagining cosmopolitanism, ironically, encouraged an imperialistic form.

Marshall McLuhan used to say, "Media is a message," but now, "Media is money" seems to fit the reality. Globalization is an unstoppable phenomenon, so it would be better to exchange opinions on possible problems and overcome them together.
