What is globalization? HONG JIARAN

As a university student in China, my perspective on internationalization has evolved significantly over time. Internationalization refers to the process of expanding from a local or regional scope to a global one, influencing diverse fields such as politics, economics, education, and culture. In the era of rapid globalization, internationalization acts as a bridge that connects nations, emphasizing collaboration, shared goals, and mutual understanding.


From my point of view, the most visible and impactful manifestation of internationalization lies in the economy. The global market has become highly interconnected, with nations depending on one another for trade, resources, and technology. China’s economic rise is a clear example of this phenomenon—it thrives through its partnerships with other countries, importing advanced technologies and exporting goods on an enormous scale. At the same time, China’s role as both a manufacturing powerhouse and a vast consumer market reinforces its importance in the global economy. However, this interdependence also comes with challenges, such as vulnerability to global market fluctuations and the need to navigate complex international trade relations.


Beyond economics, internationalization plays a critical role in education. Studying abroad has become an increasingly popular option for students of my generation. Many seek not only academic excellence but also the opportunity to experience different cultures and gain global perspectives. Personally, I’ve found that interacting with international peers, whether online or in person, has enriched my worldview and taught me to appreciate the diversity of thoughts and ideas that arise from distinct cultural backgrounds.


Even in domestic classrooms, the influence of internationalization is evident. Curriculums are often designed with a global outlook, integrating case studies, theories, and practices from around the world. Subjects such as international relations or global business require students to think beyond national boundaries, fostering a deeper understanding of global issues. The presence of international faculty members and the use of global educational resources further enhance this exposure, preparing students for a world that is increasingly interconnected.


In conclusion, internationalization has become an integral part of modern life, shaping how nations collaborate and how individuals interact across borders. For students like me, it offers opportunities to learn, grow, and engage with the world in ways that were unimaginable just a few decades ago. While it brings challenges, it also opens doors to endless possibilities, making it an essential aspect of our personal and collective development.

In the 21st century, as globalization progresses rapidly in various fields, such as the media industry and the IT field, I believe that there might be no one who doesn't know the word "globalization."
