What Is Globalization？ -------GUANYUE

   Globalization is an economic, social, and cultural phenomenon that has been growing steadily over the past few decades. Simply put, it’s about countries becoming more connected and dependent on each other. It has sped up international trade, technology sharing, capital flows, and cultural exchanges, making the world feel less divided than it used to be. Nowadays, no matter where we are, we can buy products and services from all over the world and communicate with others through the internet.

  Robertson and White point out that globalization isn’t just something that’s happening today; it actually has deep historical roots. While the term “globalization” only became popular in the second half of the 20th century, the process itself started hundreds of years ago. For instance, colonialism, religious missions, international trade, and imperial expansion were all early examples of globalization. The rise of capitalism and the creation of global markets began as far back as the 15th century during the Age of Exploration. So, globalization didn’t just appear out of nowhere—it’s something that’s been gradually building up over centuries of human activity.

  Globalization has helped boost international trade and investment. Some goods and services have become cheaper and more accessible. It’s also made it easier for multinational companies to expand their businesses. On top of that, countries and businesses, in their pursuit of profit, have worked to lower production and supply chain costs, leading to greater efficiency.

  Globalization has also spread culture. As it’s become easier for people to travel, and as we connect with the world online, cultures and information from different countries are shared and understood more easily. People are adopting international standards and practices to bridge cultural gaps. However, while globalization has reduced some cultural differences, it has also highlighted many unique cultural aspects.

  In addition to economic, political, and cultural dimensions, globalization has a strong social aspect, especially in how people interact and form relationships. It has made communication much easier, and cross-border marriages, immigration, and cultural exchanges have become more common. Social relationships across borders are a key feature of modern life. Tools like the internet and social media have made global communication smoother, shrinking the distance between people.

  In short, globalization is a complex process that affects many areas of life, including the economy, politics, culture, and society. It’s hard to say that it drives progress in any one direction, but it’s clear that globalization has a significant impact on nearly every part of our daily lives.
